Firefighters reach fundraising goal!

Updated On: Jun 14, 2009 (16:48:00)

The Lake Havasu Professional Firefighters are pleased to announce that through numerous donations to the adopt a shell program by individuals, businesses and through the efforts of the firefighters association, the 2009 July 4th community Firework show will go on!

On Friday June 12th, LHPFFA event organizer Tony Rivello officially announced that a contract had been secured with Lantis Lasers & Fireworks to produce a July 4th show that will be bigger than years prior.  What makes this show so special is that residents and visitors alike made it possible through donations ranging from pocket change to the $2500 donation by Chip Romer of the Romer Beverage Company.

The Lake Havasu Professional Firefighters Association wants to thank all who embraced our vision of ensuring that our community would not let our Nations Independence day go by without a proper celebration.  We hope you enjoy the show and want to encourage all to attend the Freedom Festival at Rotary Park from 4pm-10pm.  This FREE event which is designed for family style entertainment will host music, food, vendors, games, prizes and of course the best view of the firework show.  See ya there!

Response to Citizen Concerns: Possible Fire Department Cuts

Updated On: Apr 03, 2009 (10:06:00)

Over the past week the Lake Havasu Professional Firefighters have received numerous phone calls, emails and direct questions from concerned residents in response to the recent newspaper article which stated 6 firefighters were slated to be laid off due to budgetary constraints.  As a result, many rumors have begun to surface about reductions in service and manpower.  We feel it is important for our citizens and visitors alike to be aware of the consequences of the proposed fire department budget being unveiled to the City Council on March 24, 2009.

2009/2010 Fire Department Budget Cuts:

  • Possible closure of Fire Station #6 servicing auto dealers, airport, mall and other big box retailers (Lowes, Home Depot, Havasu RV, etc.)
  • Elimination of 6 active firefighters and one public educator
  • Elimination of 8 additional FD positions due to retirement (firefighters, engineers, captains and one inspector)

Consequences of proposed budget cuts:

  • Risk of increased insurance rates due to reduction of ISO rating
  • Increased risk to LHC residents and visitors
  • Increased risk to fire department personnel due to reduction in manpower
  • Increased response time to emergencies due to fewer units available for response
  • Increase in overall scene time due to reduction in manpower
  • Increased property loss due to less available firefighters on scene
  • Decrease in the number of off duty firefighters available for call back during large incidents
  • Reduction of firefighter resources by 20%

Call volumes for Lake Havasu City continue to rise.  In 2008 there were 9,900 Fire Department Apparatus Responses to your calls for help.  If you are opposed to compromising service delivery through a reduction of available fire and EMS resources you are strongly encouraged to contact your Mayor, City Council, City Manager and Fire Chief to express your concerns.

There are no second chances in response to fire and medical emergencies
