History of the Lake Havasu City Fire Department

|
|
The Lake Havasu City Fire Department began as a volunteer department in 1964, operating out of headquarters located at the old airport on the Island. It was soon decided that a more central location was needed, and the department moved and began operations along side of Baxter Harris' Chevron Station on the corner of McCulloch and Smoketree Avenue. It became a combination department in 1970. The department has approximately 100 full and part time employees. We have six fire stations strategically located throughout the city, and we are proud to have an ISO rating of 3. Our response area covers approximately 52 square miles. The department provides fire and emergency medical services to our citizens and visitors along with a number of public education opportunities. We also have specialized teams able to respond to hazardous materials incidents as well as technical rescues involving swift water, lakeshore, confined space, and desert rescues. In addition, our fireboat is ready to respond to emergencies on the lake at a moment's notice. Handling the emergency management planning for the city is another duty of the Fire Department.
